NCPUL's Participation in Frankfurt Book Fair a Great Honor for Urdu Enthusiasts: Dr. Shams Equbal
New Delhi : The National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), New Delhi, has proudly participated in the prestigious 75th Frankfurt Book Fair, held in Frankfurt, Germany. The fair, which commenced on October 16, 2024, and will conclude on October 20, 2024, is recognized as one of the largest and most significant book fairs globally, with a special focus on copyrights, translations, and book production.
This year's fair has attracted over 17,000 publishers, authors, and literary agents from 130 countries, making it a landmark event in the publishing world. India is represented by more than 30 government and private publishers, with the NCPUL showcasing its collection at the India Pavilion, organized by the National Book Trust (NBT) of India. The NCPUL’s stall features an impressive display of around 150 titles, highlighting the richness of Urdu literature and scholarship.
Visitors from diverse linguistic backgrounds, including many authors and publishers from the Urdu community, have shown appreciation for the NCPUL’s contributions. The fair also hosted the launch of "Aayeen -e-Hind: Ankahi Kahani" by Ram Bahadur Rai on October 17, 2024. The event, held at the India Pavilion, was graced by renowned author Arif Naqvi and Professor Milind Sudhakar Marathe, Chairman of NBT India.
Representing NCPUL at the fair are Mohammad Ahmed, Assistant Director (Admin), and Ajmal Saeed, Assistant Education Officer. Their efforts are being lauded for promoting Urdu literature on such a global platform.
In a message expressing his joy, Dr. Shams Equbal, Director of NCPUL, said: “The participation of the NCPUL in the Frankfurt International Book Fair is a tremendous honor for Urdu lovers. To my knowledge, this is the first time an Urdu organization has participated in such a prestigious global literary event. It marks a significant moment for the growth and recognition of Urdu on the world stage. The progress of the NCPUL is a direct result of the tireless dedication and hard work of our staff and officials".
This participation is seen as a positive step forward in promoting the Urdu language internationally, giving it a well-deserved spotlight in one of the most important literary gatherings in the world.
